Since its start in 2015, the Governor’s Cup Kid’s Marathon program has grown every year. We still are planning on having the Kid’s Marathon in 2021. However, the format may be changed due to COVID-19.
Traditionally, kids in grades K-5 at participating schools log 120 minutes of running/walking during a six-week training period and run/walk a 1-mile lap at 6:30 p.m. the Friday before Governor’s Cup race day on Saturday.
This non-competitive, non-timed event is about having fun and making it to the finish line.
Every Kid’s Marathon training program participant will be rewarded with tokens for meeting time goals and a T-shirt for completing the training program, free of charge. Those who participate in the final event will also earn a finisher’s medal. Children from non-participating schools will not receive a training program T-shirt, but are invited to participate in the non-timed lap free of charge and will receive a finisher’s medal.
Registration information for the 2021 Kid’s Marathon program will be released in early 2021.
2019 participating schools included Broadwater, Central, Four Georgians, Hawthorne, Jefferson, Kessler, Rossiter, Smith, Warren, St. Andrew, Boulder, Clancy, Deer Lodge, Radley, Montana City, Townsend and Helena Home School.
The tentative Governor’s Cup Kid’s Marathon Final Mile is 6:30 p.m. at Centennial Park on June 11, 2021.
Facilities: Portable restrooms will be located at the park.
Water Stations: Water will be provided at the finish line.
